Geography

The township is located in the southwestern part of Nantou County and belongs to the mountainous area of ​​central Taiwan. Its natural environmental characteristics are described as follows: geographical location, climate, topography, geology, soil, hydrology, flora and fauna, etc.:

  1. the geographical location
        Lugu Township is located in the southwest of Nantou County. It is adjacent to Baibuzixi and Xinyi Township in the east. Daanling and Zhushan Towns are connected to the west and the south side. The area is 141.89 square kilometers. Mountainous, there are Qingshuigou Creek and Beishui River running through it, with an east-west length of 9.7 kilometers and a north-south length of 16.1 kilometers.

        Lugu Township is located in the mountainous area of ​​central Taiwan. It has a mild temperature throughout the year and belongs to a subtropical climate.         The Lugu Township geological structure belongs to the part of the west wing of the Taiwan complex anticline. The eastern part of the geology is newer than the western part. The reason for its formation is caused by the Dongning orogeny movement. The geological conditions of this area include the following six types: the Late Miocene and the Three Gorges ( Ms), Pliocene, a water shale (PI), Pliocene, a Zhuolan layer (P2), Shangxinyi Pleistocene, Yishan Mountain (PQs), Quaternary Pleistocene, a ground accumulation layer (Q4) and Modern alluvium (Q6). The western rushing fault passes from northeast to west through the northwest and southeast of Lugu Township, namely the first village, Yonglong Village, Fenghuang Village, Neihu Village and Heya Village.
  5. Soil
        The soil of Lugu Township can be roughly divided into four types: alluvial soil, red soil, yellow soil and collapsed soil. The alluvial soil is distributed in the area of ​​Ruitian in the south half of the lake, the inner lake and the south bank of the Zhuoshui River. The terrain is relatively flat and the soil is fertile. It is the elite agricultural area of ​​Ruitian good quality rice. The red soil is distributed on the terraces of the Dashui Terrace and the Beishui River. The soil layer is different in depth and well-drained. It is an important area of ​​tea garden. The loess is distributed in the area around Pingding Daqiu Garden and the top of Fenghuang Village. The soil is not deep and the structure is unstable. As for the collapsed soil, it is distributed in mountains and hills. In other areas, the topsoil is susceptible to alluvial rain and the soil structure is unstable.
  6. Hydrology
        The main streams around Lugu Township include the northern end of the Zhuoshui River and the Jiji Town. The territory is dominated by Dongpu Naxi and Qingshuigou Stream. The former is from the southeastern end of Lugu Township to the north and north, and exits at the foot of the island. Including Beisixi, Zhonghuxi, Caizixi, and Chexixi; the latter originates from the foot of Kuiling in the east, flows to the northwest to Xiufeng, turns to the north side through Ruitian, and invades the turbid water stream in Ruitian. The tributaries include Xinhexi. Shuitailxi, Xiufengxi, etc., the total length of the river is about 60 kilometers. There are two famous water pools in the territory. One is the Qilintan in the south of the top of the top, and the other is the university pool in the Xitou Forest Recreation Area.

        Lugu Township is rich in animals and plants. The animals are mostly black, followed by mammals. (1) Animals in Lugu Township include birds, mammals, fish and butterflies; there are abundant birds in the area, including a total of eighty-four species of scutellaria, five-color black, white-eared thrush, bamboo chicken, gray-faced pheasant, and white-headed genus; Taiwanese monkeys, hawthorns, Taiwan wild boars, sambars, etc. Others such as big tube nose bat, red belly squirrel, pangolin, white nose. Taiwanese voles, etc.; fish are more abundant, because the area is the upper reaches of the river; the water quality is clear, the main fish are squid, squid, goby, creek, moss, and grouper, and the most common species, such as bandits, Wu Guoyu, carp, crab, there are more than 20 kinds of fish; in the butterfly, there are common Swallowtail butterfly, broad-green phoenix butterfly, green butterfly, glazed Swallowtail butterfly, red-winged Swallowtail butterfly, fine butterfly, Red Admiral, there are twenty different butterflies.
